The problem
Mood journaling often feels like homework, and many mood apps ask for an account and personal data. We wanted a check-in that takes under 30 seconds and never leaves the phone.
What we built
The daily check-in is a single colour, with an optional feeling, note and tags. Entries build a month mosaic and a generated piece of artwork, all stored offline in SQLite with no network access.
Key features
- Daily check-in with a 12-colour palette or a custom colour, 12 feelings, an optional note and tags
- Month mosaic calendar with labels for screen readers
- Generated monthly artwork and a year-in-colours view, exportable as a high-resolution image
- Searchable journal with filters by feeling, tag and date
- Monthly reflections with simple counts and neutral observations, never diagnoses
- JSON and CSV export, and delete-all-data in one step
- Large touch targets, selection never shown by colour alone, reduced motion and dynamic text size

Challenges and how we handled them
Art from personal data, privately
The monthly artwork is generated on the device from the user's own entries, and the app is blocked from network access, so nothing is uploaded.
